From Engadget: AeroVironment recently showed off its prototype of a nano-UAV (also called NAV) dubbed Mercury. It is able to fly about and hover in place by mimicking the wing movement of a real hummingbird and, of course, be controlled completely untethered. What's more, the firm says that the final version will actually look like a real hummingbird as well, and be able to be controlled from up to a kilometer away - even inside buildings.

faced with unemployment in the education sector, I'm thinking of dusting off my BS in Physics and building some WMD's.

that's all nice and all, but what's the point when the battery runs out within a minute?

Orrite. Very cool.

However I do wonder what the point is over those little remote controlled helos.

I know wings are the only option at the scale of a fly, as the aerodynamic laws wont provide lift at that scale.

But I can buy a remote mini helo for $50 australian right now.
